Synthetic hormones can be described as a large group of chemical compounds or drugs that act as chemical messengers and have an effect similar to natural hormones. In HRT, synthetic hormones consist of estrogen with a synthetic progestin. They are used in the replacement of natural hormones for women entering, or experiencing menopausal symptoms to help reduce these symptoms, making it more comfortable for women to enter into these later years of life.
They have also been used in other cases when someone, including children, have hormone deficiencies that can be corrected with synthetic hormones, close to the ones they are lacking.
