Hormone Balance and Imbalance
Women who are approaching menopause or perimenopause will
begin to experience symptoms associated with hormonal
balance. The relationship between the patient and the doctor
is very important due to the fact that it is now possible
for blood tests to accurately determine the hormonal levels
of each individual woman. This way, it is possible to
personalize medication to give the necessary dose to each
woman to get them back to the level of each hormone they
need.
This eliminates the guess of each hormonal medication and
giving one person too much of one hormone, and another too
little. The perfect balance is important to keep each woman
comfortable in herself and the stage of life she is
experiencing. Menopausal woman, compared to perimenopausal,
women will need more of the hormone estrogen due to the
simple fact that estrogen and progestin levels decrease with
age.
Hormone replacement therapy has been found to restore the
natural balance of hormones in women and create a more
pleasant experience through menopause. When the balances of
hormones are out of place, this is when symptoms of
menopause are most unpleasant. It’s important for
individualized therapy, and this has been found to be the
most successful way of treating the stages of menopause.
Hormone imbalances can also affect other areas of a woman’s
life such as mental health, emotional health, and physical
aspects. The onset of risks for diseases can become more
predominant, and balancing hormones can help to prevent some
of these diseases and make the risks much loser.
Balancing estrogen can severely reduce symptoms of
menopause, such as hot flashes, night sweats, vaginal
dryness, loss of libido, insomnia, fatigue, and some others.
Hormone therapy can make the menopause almost feel like it’s
not even there, and the symptoms almost nonexistent. But,
you do have to remember that although you might not feel the
symptoms as much, it in no way makes the menopause go away,
nor delay this stage of life. It only can make the
transition much more comfortable.
When hormone therapy is stopped, the imbalance of hormones
can return, causing the symptoms to return, as well as the
discomfort. Make sure you have discussed all aspects with
your doctor before you make any decisions in stopping the
therapy.
