Relieving Stress
Your body is built to handle a certain amount of stress. Higher amounts of stress when you're not prepared for it can lead to depression. There are certain ways you can help yourself be prepared to deal with stress.
Sleep: Make sure you are getting the recommended 7-8 hours of sleep a night
Diet: Make sure you are eating a healthy, balanced diet; one recommended is the Zone diet. Eating a balanced diet keeps your immune system strong, and that helps you cope with stress
Avoid Self-medicating: Using cigarettes, alcohol, and caffeine as a way to deal with stress can actually add additional stress
Learning how to Relax: If you teach yourself how to relax when you're not stressed, it will be easier to practice those things when you are. Some good ways to relax are:
Yoga
Meditation
Exercising at least 30 min. a day at least 4 times a week
