Palmitoleic AcidMain Entry: pal·mit·ole·ic acidPronunciation: pal-m t- - l -ik-, päm- t- Function: noun : A crystalline unsaturated fatty acid C16H30O2 occurring in the form of glycerides especially in marine animal oils (as of cod, seals, and whales) and yielding palmitic acid on hydrogenation. Palmitoleic acid is a minor monounsaturated fatty acid in the human diet and in blood plasma. Macadamia oil is at least one other potentially large source of palmitoleic acid, as well as other nuts that, like fish oils, are high in high density lipoproteins.
