Omega-3 Fatty Acids

Main Entry: ome·ga-3
Pronunciation: - thr
Function: adjective

: Being or composed of polyunsaturated fatty acids in which the first double bond in the hydrocarbon chain occurs between the third and fourth carbon atoms from the end of the molecule most distant from the carboxylic acid group and which are found especially in fish (as tuna and salmon), fish oils, green leafy vegetables, and some vegetable oils

The two important fatty acids, EPA and DHA can be found in fish and fish oil. Unfortunately, farm raised or fresh fish can contain unhealthy levels of mercury therefore making them contaminated. Dr. Sears OmegaRx® fish oil is ultra refined to obtain long chain omega-3 fatty acids to help support a healthy heart and immune system.

The recommended serving is 2.5 grams of long-chain omega-3 fatty acids. This amount represents either four (4) OmegaRx® capsules or one teaspoon of liquid OmegaRx®. While fish oil capsules are the popular choice, fish oil liquid is recommended for people who may need higher amounts of long chain omega-3 fatty acids.

Depending on the person and particular diseases that they may already have, the amount may vary. For example, it has been proven that children with ADHD need a much higher dose than the normal person whom is just trying to stay healthy. People with anxiety and depression may also need different levels to keep their bodies in balance.
