Cause and Cure for Silent-Inflammation
Silent inflammation is the first sign your body is out of balance and you are not well. Although you can't feel it, it's wearing on your heart, brain, and immune system. Many underlying hormonal changes are linked to silent inflammation.
There are three distinct types of hormones:
- Pro-inflammatory eicosanoids
- Insulin
- Cortisol
Each of these contributes to silent inflammation when overproduced by the body. However, it can easily be brought back to balance by diet and lifestyle prescriptions.
Eicosanoids are the first hormones developed by living organisms and are produced by every cell in your body. They are considered primitive hormones, but they control everything from your immune system, to your brain, to your heart. There are two kinds of eicosanoids; pro-inflammatory (promotes inflammation), and anti-inflammatory (stops infection and heals). You need both kinds to remain in proper balance to promote wellness.
Most of us produce too many pro-inflammatory eicosanoids which will eventually lead to chronic disease. Eicosanoids form the command center of your immune system. If you get rid of them, your immune system would go as well.
Imbalances of eicosanoids are responsible for chronic diseases like heart disease, cancer, and Alzheimer's. They are caused by the silent inflammation imbalance. The easiest way to fix the imbalance is in what you eat. The “good” eicosanoids (anti-inflammatory) come from long chains of omega-3 fatty acids (fish oils), and spare omega-6 fatty acids (vegetable oils like corn, soybean, sunflower, and safflower). Long-chain omega-3 fatty acids reduce pro-inflammatory eicosanoids, whereas omega-6 increases the production of pro-inflammatory eicosanoids.
