Endometrial Cancer
Uterine cancer is the most common gynecologic cancer (i.e., cancer that originates in female reproductive system). It develops in the body of the uterus, or womb, which is a hollow organ located in the lower abdomen. The wall of the uterus is comprised of an inner lining (called the endometrium) and an outer layer of muscle tissue (called the myometrium).
The chances of uterine cancer increase about 75% in women after menopause. Endometrial cancer has been found to more common in Caucasian women, and the average of diagnosis is about 60.
Adenocarcinoma is a type of endometrial cancer, and is found in the surface cells of the endometrium. Adenocarcinoma accounts for about 90% of this type of uterine cancer. In the United States there about 37,000 cases diagnosed each year, with about 6000 of these cases facing mortality.
